No Coupons This Weekend

Just a reminder... There are no coupon inserts on holiday weekends. So, if you're only buying the paper for the coupons, you can just skip it all together on Sunday.

I've gotten quite a few emails asking which paper is the best for coupons. Unfortunately, I don't have a great answer for you. I usually pick up a copy of The Daily News and a copy of the New York Post. Some weeks, they have exactly the same coupons and other weeks they vary slightly in the coupons featured. I have a friend in Queens who gets different coupons in her paper than I get in mine. It's really just a hit-or-miss type of thing.

I'm going to start posting a coupon preview each week. This will give you an idea of what to expect in the Sunday papers. It's more of a national list, so it will vary from region to region (or neighborhood to neighborhood). If there is a great coupon on the list that you didn't get in your paper, you can search for it on Ebay. Usually, you can pick up a pack of 20 coupons for a particular product for around $2-$4, depending on the product. I've done this a few times and it's really paid off (especially on B1G1 coupons or meat coupons).

Whatever you do, CHECK TO MAKE SURE THE INSERTS ARE THERE BEFORE YOU BUY THE PAPER! There are so many people taking the inserts out of the papers at the stores. You don't want to get home to find that you didn't get any inserts.

  1. Thanks for the 411 on the no coupons on holiday weekends. I totally didnt know. As for which papers have the best coupons I have noticed that the Newsday has coupons that the Daily News doesnt have and recently I bought a paper upstate NY I think it was called the Herald and it had way more coupons than the Daily News. If you are going upstate this summer I would totally buy it and maybe do a little shopping up there as well. They double coupons and their overall prices are cheaper.

  3. I'm not surprised that you've found better prices and coupons upstate. The coupons in NYC kind of... well... stink. You can still score some great deals by using coupons, but the coupons that are in the papers in other cities are SO much better.

If you have a friend who lives elsewhere, you may want to order them an extra Sunday subscription to the paper. Then, they can mail you the coupons.
